Gugga Navami

Gugga Navami, on Bhaadwa badi navami, honours Gugga Pir (Goga ji / Jaharveer), the folk saint revered by Hindus and Muslims alike as protector from snakebite. Devotees carry the chhadi — a tall pole decked with peacock feathers, coloured cloth and a small flag — from village to village, with drummers and singers of Gugga's ballads. Gugga medis (shrines) across Haryana hold fairs, and seviyan and churma are offered.

Dates are calculated for Kurukshetra; local panchangs may differ by a day when a tithi spans two sunrises.
