Haryana at a glance
- One of India's smaller states by area, but among the largest contributors of wheat and rice to the central pool.
- Home of Kurukshetra, Panipat (three historic battles: 1526, 1556, 1761) and Rakhigarhi, one of the largest Harappan sites.
- Haryanvi, Hindi and Punjabi are widely spoken; Bagri in the west, Ahirwati in the south and Mewati in Nuh.
Dates are calculated for Kurukshetra; local panchangs may differ by a day when a tithi spans two sunrises.
